My Book Addiction

Hunger games.jpg

Hey! I am sorry for not posting in February, it is one of my busiest months so I took a break but I am back!

So, I have several different books I want to make posts on so I will start with the best. The Hunger Games. They are soo good! I read the first one in only 6 hours! They are so good and very clean.....once you can get past the fact that they are all trying to kill each other. The story of Katniss (Gale, who is her best friend, calls her Catnip...how precious.) is a story of love, pain, and hope. Katniss finds herself faced with many confusing feelings over two different guys all while she is trying to stay alive. The author writes so beautifully and the book flows very well. It is an easy reading level but heavy reading in emotion. (I think I actually started crying only once...)

Title: The Hunger Games
Author: Suzanne Collins
Pages: 374 (I think its 21-22 chapters)
Recommended Age Group: 13+
Language: none
Sexual Content: mild (almost none)
Violence: For it being a book about people killing one another, the violence is minimal as the author is not very graphic.

I cannot wait to see the movie!! Here is the trailer:

4 Useful, Fun, and Cute DIY Crafts

Here are several ideas I got off of Pintrest. Pintrest is one of my favorite sites ever. period. Try out these useful, fun, and cute DIY crafts at home!

Batik(: Click here to learn how to do it!

Personalize your old Toms! I love this idea because I have gotten holes in the front of my TOMS and if I do this then the hole will be no more! :)

Now this is cute! You could give this  to anyone: a parent, a leader/mentor, a teacher, a sibling, a friend, a boyfriend/girlfriend etc.  You could also personalize it or customize it however you wanted. You could tape pictures to the playing cards, just an idea.

This is another craft I am totally doing. I could use another adorable notebook for school! Click here to find out how to do it! <3

Have fun and enjoy!!

Christmas Movie Classics!

In my opinion, every part of Christmas is the best part. But today, my favorite part of Christmas is going to be movies. No matter how many times you watch a Christmas movie, no matter how well you can recite by memory (and sing the entire soundtrack), and no matter how well you know the characters, watching it again is just like watching it the first time. I. Love. Christmas. Movies. I will make a post on these two animated movies, and I will make a post on live movies another day. Here are two classics you must watch before your family Christmas:

Charlie Brown's Christmas
Now this is what I call a classic!

Love it!

Frosty the Snowman....of course!!

Thanks for reading!! Enjoy!

Who Doesn't Love Peppermint?

I love peppermint! Here are a few peppermint things to try:

Peppermint Bark:
Super fun to make and you can do it on your Christmas break with your family!
Here is where I got the recipe: http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/paula-deen/peppermint-bark-recipe/index.html

Ingredients

  • Crushed candy canes, to yield 1 cup
  • 2 pounds white chocolate
  • Peppermint flavorings, optional

Directions

Place candy canes in a plastic bag and hammer into 1/4-inch chunks or smaller. Melt the chocolate in a double boiler. Combine candy cane chunks with chocolate (add peppermint flavoring at this point if desired.) Pour mixture onto a cookie sheet layered with parchment or waxed paper and place in the refrigerator for 45 minutes or until firm. Remove from cookie sheet and break into pieces (like peanut brittle.)

Peppermint Coffee Creamer:
This stuff is amazing!

This is perfect to put in coffee....and if you dont like peppermint, there are tons of flavors that Coffee-Mate makes

Peppermint Oreos:
You can buy these at Walmart, and they taste great!!

The chill of winter is coming! Cold weather calls for warm coats. <3 The idea is to be warm and stylish all at the same time!! :) Here are a few winter coats you can look at and maybe even buy!

JC Penny has a TON of adorable clothes for great prices! You should really check out their website!

Here are a few tips when buying a coat:

Reach your arms out in front of you; the sleeves should still touch your wrist

Cross your arms in front of your chest; it should not feel tight across your back and shoulders - you want there to be room for sweatshirts and sweaters underneath it

What does the fit look like? The idea is it to be fitted, not for it to look like a box with buttons :) However, you do not want it to be super tight because you want room underneath it for other clothes, scarfs, or jackets

What is the length like? You want the coat either at your waist or at the bottom of your butt. Also, if you wear a lot of shorter dresses in winter (hopefully with tights!) then you want to make sure your coat does not cover up the entire dress.

Just a few things to think about! Have a great Thanksgiving! Sorry I didn't post anything for awhile. Been busy with sports and school. :(:

Letters to God

This movie is so inspiring! I loved it. Letter to God is a movie about a 8yr. old boy who has cancer. He writes letters to God every day and sends them in the mail. The mailman, Brady, finds these letters and reads them. Although Brady is going through a hard time, he finds hope in this small child's letters and in his family. It is a really sad movie but it has a good ending. :) Here is the trailer....

Movies: The Grace Card

I love to watch movies...especially ones that make me cry, laugh out loud, or yell at the TV. This is one of those movies that makes you do all three. The Grace Card is a movie about a police who's son dies and he has a hard time getting over it. Throughout the years he has many problems with his wife and other son. Love is not in this man's vocabulary until something awful happens that changes his, and his family's life.

The Grace Card is PG-13 for "drama and trauma" (translation: the movie makes you cry and the man is a policeman, therefore there is a little violence). Its not a movie for little kids but is an amazing movie for teens and adults. The Grace card has a very good morale to the story.

Journal!

I love to journal, and I think everyone should! I read back on journal entries I made FOREVER ago and it cracks me up! A few years ago my Papa showed me the journal of my Great, Great, Great Grandfather, which he wrote while in the civil war.  This made me realize how important journaling is, I get to read his adventures in the Civil War and read all about him. I think it would be amazing if my great grandchildren could read my journal someday. I have a really adorable journal that Mom got me for Christmas, and here are a few that you can buy right now!

Here is one from Target for $7.99:

You can buy it here.

You can also buy adorable journals at Madel's, this one is for $2.99:

You can find journals at any store and Wal Mart has a TON of them....thanks! Enjoy journaling! <3

Disney's Movie, Prom

Prom...the cheesiest, most unrealistic movie I have EVER watched. Although Prom is very cheesy and unrealistic, its really funny and cute. My friend and I watched while we were having a girls weekend and could not stop laughing! If you want to watch a corny chick flick, this is the way to go. Its rated PG so its a movie for everyone...except maybe 5 yr. olds. :) Its a really cute movie, if only prom and relationships actually worked out in life the way they do in the movie. ;)

Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry

OH! This book warmed my heart. I have always had a passion for ending human trafficking/slavery and so reading books like this one really speak to me. This book is a fairly quick read, maybe three-seven days depending on how fast you read and how much time you spend reading it.

This book, Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry, is about a girl and her family who live right after the Civil War. So, although they are no longer slaves, there is still a huge racism problem. This book made me laugh a couple of times but I cried through the majority of it. It is such a sad book but has an amazing plot and story. I would definitely recommend this book. You wont regret reading it.

Here is where you can read a little bit more about the book:
